PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film perpendicular magnetic recording head which can prevent the magnetic pole from being erased by reducing the remanent magnetization of the main pole end at the side of the magnetic disk. SOLUTION: The thin film perpendicular magnetic recording head has a main magnetic pole layer, an auxiliary magnetic pole layer with its one end close to an end of the main magnetic pole layer and with its other end magnetically connected to the other end of the main magnetic pole layer, and an electromagnetic coil element for writing having a coil layer formed so as to at least pass through between the main magnetic pole layer and the auxiliary magnetic pole layer to induce magnetic flux to those layers. Further, it has at least one magnetizing means to apply an erasing magnetic field to the main magnetic pole at its end at the side facing the perpendicular magnetic recording medium.
