PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine which can solve the problem that data entry units of generally distributed sewing machines are for inputting/setting the position coordinates for a flat surface for every number of stitch and sewing machines which use the data set with the position coordinates for two flat surfaces for all number of stitches have troubles, and can make high-efficient work. SOLUTION: The sewing machine is provided with positioning mechanisms 20, 51 which position a sewing needle 5 and a sewn object, button hold mechanisms 32, 72 which positions the sewing needle and a button b, a memory means 103a which memorizes compound data in which position coordinates of the workpiece and the button are memorized for every plural number of stitches, an operation control means 102 which controls operations of the positioning mechanism and the button hold mechanism, a data input means for inputting the position coordinates data from outside of the sewing machine, a selection means 103 for choosing two from among a plurality of position coordinates data, an assignment means which assigns selected position coordinates data to the workpiece and the button and a data creation means for creating the compound data from two assigned position coordinates data.
