<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell capable of enhancing draining capability of a gas exhaust manifold without causing output drop. <P>SOLUTION: This fuel cell 10 has a stacked structure composed by stacking a plurality of unit cells 20 and generates electromotive force by an electrochemical reaction generated in the respective unit cells by a supply gas supplied to the respective unit cells. The fuel cell is provided with; a gas supply manifold 12 communicating with the entrance side of gas passages 40 provided for the respective unit cells; the gas exhaust manifold 30 communicating with the exit side of the gas passages; and an opening area variation means 70 capable of varying the opening area of the gas exhaust manifold when viewed in the gas flow direction in the gas exhaust manifold.
