PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic book management device capable of realizing enhancement of working efficiency by efficiently conveying a container with a vacant space when automatic lead-out/-in of the book is performed. SOLUTION: The automatic book management device is stored in a library 4 and takes out the instructed container 8 from a plurality of containers 8 stored with a plurality of books and conveys it to a station 10. The device has a conveying means for conveying the container conveyed to the station to the library 4 and storing it; and a control means for obtaining information regarding the vacant space of the respective containers and arrangement position information of the respective containers in the library, storing the obtained information in a memory means while associating the information with the container and selecting the container taken out from the library 4 to the station 10 based on the vacant space information of the respective containers and the arrangement position information of the respective containers in the library.
