PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional recording or reproducing device compatible with various kinds of recording media and capable of editing those media that recording or reproducing state of a certain medium can be presented but it is difficult for the user to intuitively obtain the operation state of the recording medium at a glance when operating the device through a remote control. SOLUTION: The remote controller of the recording and reproducing device is provided with function buttons for each recording medium used in the device, and each button has an display means to show the processing being executed for the corresponding medium.
