PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which does not cause image defects such as transfer deviation and transfer failure by reducing shock applied when a recording medium collides with a position where an image carrier and a transfer member are opposite to each other. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the image carrier 27 for carrying a toner image; and the transfer member 30 which is disposed opposite to the image carrier 27 and transfers the toner image to the surface of a recording medium P conveyed to the position where the image carrier 27 and the transfer member 30 are opposite to each other. Further, the image forming apparatus includes a cushioning member 42 which abuts on the recording medium P conveyed to the position where the image carrier 27 and the transfer member 30 are opposite to each other, and reduces energy when the recording medium P collides with the image carrier 27.
