An agricultural harvesting machine has a combined stem cutter and crop lifter with an essentially crescent-shaped shank profile (16) terminating in a root clamp fixture (12). The root clamp fixture is attached rigidly to the crop-lifting shank (16). The crop lifting shank (16) has a separation break point groove (34) located between the tip (30) and the root zone (14). The break point notch is located in the concave edge of the profile.
