A monitoring system(5) detects the constantly repeated sections(3,4), e.g. the peaks and troughs, of an adjacent moving extruded corrugated pipe(1). A cutting system(2) then cuts the pipe at the detected point or a pitch spacing(P) of the repeated sections from this point. Cutting occurs in the troughs(4) of the corrugations. Detection of each section (3,4) is by an optical measuring system, in particular a laser beam(8), radial to the extrudate central axis. An independent claim is included for the process equipment which includes one or more cutters(2) and a radially aligned monitoring system(5).
