<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the lifetime of a filter for catching the volatile organic compounds generated from an image forming apparatus by efficiently using the filter regardless of the kinds of sheets to be used. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an exhaust fan 54 for exhausting air from the inside of the apparatus to the outside thereof and an air filter 58 through which the airstream generated by the exhaust fan 54 passes. The filter 58 serves to capture the volatile organic compounds in the air, and the image forming apparatus forms an image on a recording material. The apparatus has a detecting means M for detecting the kind of the recording material and controls the amount of the air passing the filter 58 by the exhaust fan 54 based on the output from the detecting means M. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
