PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To exhibit the performance at maximum while preventing the generation of deposit in an internal combustion engine in which mixed fuel of gasoline and alcohol is jetted from an injection valve whose tip is exposed to a combustion chamber. SOLUTION: In this internal combustion engine, an allowable temperature Tja of an injection valve tip part 21 of the fuel injection valve 20 at an alcohol concentration of fuel detected by an alcohol concentration sensor 41 is calculated from a map, or the aroma concentration in the mixed fuel is calculated. The current temperature Tj of the injection valve tip part is calculated, and if Tj>Tja, the ignition timing lag amount required to reach Tj<Tja is calculated from the map and lagged. At that time, when the alcohol concentration is above a predetermined value, the allowable temperature is obtained by adding a rise correction valueαdetermined by the aroma concentration, so that the ignition timing lag amount is reduced to improved the performance.
