<p>An oil-resistant sheet material which has a low air impermeability and excellent oil resistance and is suitable for use as a packaging material for foods, in particular, foods prepared with or containing an edible oil. This oil-resistant sheet material comprises a base and formed on at least one side thereof at least one coating layer comprising a starch and/or polyvinyl alcohol and a fatty acid, the amount of the coating layer being 0.5-20 g/m<SUP>2</SUP> on a solid basis. Incorporation of a crosslinking agent in the coating layer improves the oil resistance. That coating layer may be coated with a coating layer comprising a fatty acid as a major component or with a coating layer comprising polyvinyl alcohol as a major component. Thus, at least two layers may be formed on the base.</p> |
