PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system, a portable terminal device composing the authentication system, and an authentication method preventing improper acquisition of authentication information for authenticating a person to be authenticated before authentication. SOLUTION: An application number to be used as the authentication information of a user is sent from a central processing unit 3 to a portable telephone 1 of the user. The portable telephone 1 stores the sent application number in a first storage part 162 which can not be read by a gate terminal device 2. When entering an event hall, the application number stored in the first storage part is written in a second storage part 172 readable by the gate terminal device 2, the written application number is acquired by the gate terminal device 2, and authentication of the user is carried out on the basis of the acquired application number.
