PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for manufacturing a polarization reversal crystal in which individual dispersed electrodes are restrained from being assembled to exhibit an edge effect like a single electrode, while electrodes are dispersed in dots in a region to be subjected to polarization reversal. SOLUTION: In a first step, a scheduled reversal region A is divided into a plurality of small regions (a) so as to select a prescribed small region (b) out of them, and a polarization reversal operation of the small region is conducted by bringing a first electrode into contact with only the small region (b), with respect to the scheduled reversal region A in the one substrate surface 2 of a nonlinear optical crystal substrate 1. Subsequently, by repeating a step to select a small region out of small regions (c) not selected in the previous step and to conduct the polarization reversal operation by bringing the first electrode into contact with the selected small region for required times, overall scheduled reversal region is subjected to polarization reversal.
