PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump shaft seal device facilitated in take-out of a lantern ring from a packing box and in exchange of first and second gland packings. SOLUTION: This pump shaft seal device is integrally formed with a cylindrical part 10, which is coaxially formed with a main shaft 42, on one side of the lantern ring 47. The first gland packing 46a in two lines are inserted between the main shaft 42 and the inner peripheral surface of the packing box 41 on a pump chamber 45 side, and the cylindrical part 10 is arranged opposite to the pump chamber 45 side, and the lantern ring 47 is inserted between the main shaft 42 and the inner peripheral surface of the packing box 41 till it abuts on the first gland packing 46a. The second gland packing 46b in three lines are inserted between the inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical part and the main shaft 42 till they abut on the lantern ring 47 and its insertion is regulated. A packing pushing member 48 for pushing the first and the second gland packing 46a and 46b toward the pump chamber 45 side is fixedly arranged in the outer end part of the packing box 41.
