The device has a sequential gear changer (5) and a chain for the rear wheel. A U-shaped retainer (1) is provided with a long side (2) and a short side (3). The short side is formed so that it is insertable into a suitable recess of the gear changer or the long side extends in axial direction over the chain wheels (8) of the rear wheel. The short side retainer is insertable into a socket head screw (4) of the sequential gear changer and lockable in the socket head screw. The short side is hexagonal. The long side of the retainer is provided to the chain guide with a chain wheel.
