Apparatus for metering and mixing a base fluid and a fluid additive comprises a conduit (10, 11) through which a go-devil can be passed, a go-devil sending and receiving station (12), an additive metering branch (13) and a base fluid metering branch (14). The branches have monitoring units that are connected in series to monitor the operation of the apparatus during the metering operation. An independent claim is also included for simultaneously metering and mixing a base fluid and a fluid additive using apparatus as above by connecting the monitoring units in series to monitor the metering operation.
