<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a pixel circuit using an n-channel TFT to attain a high-quality image display, and to be made improved in yield, small in size and high in definition. <P>SOLUTION: The pixel circuit is composed of an organic EL element, a hold capacitor, a sampling transistor, a drive transistor, a switching transistor, and first and second detection transistors. The circuit has a bootstrap function of the hold capacitor to compensate changes in the threshold voltage of the drive transistor and deterioration in the organic EL element with time, and compensates changes in the I-V characteristics of the organic El element with time and changes in the threshold voltage of the drive transistor. Moreover, a scan line (a gate line WSL of the sampling transistor) to control energizing the sampling transistor is also used as a supply line of a second fixed voltage Vofs to be applied on the gate of the drive transistor T5 through the second detection transistor T2, which makes an independent supply line of the second fixed voltage unnecessary. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
