PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress occurrence of wrinkling in a recording medium passing a heat fixing device. SOLUTION: The heat fixing apparatus 100 performs heat-fixing of a toner image on a recording medium S between a heating roller 1 and a pressurizing roller 2, and an image forming apparatus is provided with this apparatus. The roller 1 is provided with a plurality of heaters 3 and 4 with heat distributing properties adapted to the width of the medium S. The roller 2 is a roller with a foaming elastic layer 21 covered with a heat resistant releasing layer 22 as a surface layer. An apparatus 100 contains a control part Cont carrying out control so that heat generating operation is carried out by one or two of the heaters 3 and 4 on the basis of temperature detection result by a plurality of temperature detecting sensors 5 and 6 for detection of temperature distribution in a heating roller 1.
