<p num="1"><br/><br/><br/>The invention applies to a method for the acceleration of an electromagnetic <br/>rapper (20), particularly for an electrostatic precipitator, which comprises a <br/>metal cylinder (25) as a hammer, an electrical coil (23) for lifting the metal <br/>cylinder (25) and electrical means for energising the electrical coil (28). <br/>For cleaning a surface the metal cylinder (25) is lifted by an initial <br/>electrical pulse (4) generated by the electrical means for energising the <br/>electrical coil (28). According to the invention the electrical means for <br/>energising the electrical coil (28) supply the electrical coil (23) with an <br/>additional electrical pulse (7) so that the metal cylinder (25) is accelerated <br/>when it has reached the maximum point (12) of its trajectory (9). The <br/>invention can be implemented in a technically less extensive and expensive way <br/>compared to mechanical devices applied for the acceleration of metal cylinders <br/>of rappers.<br/>
