PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the simplicity of the setting operation of a menu item, while ensuring the visibility of a flaw detecting waveform, and to improve visibility without accompanying selecting and setting the operation of a troublesome menu item or display changeover operation. SOLUTION: A flaw-detecting waveform is displayed by the whole screen display, and at a steady state, the flaw-detecting waveform 204 is displayed on a flaw-detecting waveform area. A menu layer is selected as a preferred layer upon the reception of display changeover indication and a screen is changed over to a synthetic image of the flaw-detecting waveform layer and the menu layer. The flaw-detecting waveform 204 and the menu item 205 are displayed on the composited image. Both of them are differentiated, based on the shade of an image and the numerical value of a set item related to ultrasonic transmission/reception characteristics, is displayed as the menu item 205. Alteration of setting is performed, while visually confirming the menu item 205. During the alteration of the setting of menu, the display of the flaw-detecting waveform can be also confirmed, and even during the alteration of setting, the change relation of a waveform can be grasped in real time.
