PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for needle thread supply, which can prevent noise and can suitably supply needle thread. SOLUTION: A drawing out section which draws out the needle thread and a first holding means (first solenoid) which can be changed to a working condition which holds the needle thread by electric current supply to make drawing out of the needle thread impossible and a nonworking condition which makes the drawing out of the needle thread possible by electric current supply suspension, are included, when the volume of the needle thread drawn out at the time of the nonworking condition of the first holding means reaches the volume of the needle thread required for seam formation of one stitch, the first holding means is in the working condition, and a needle thread supply apparatus, which provides a minute electric current (I2) to the 1st holding means before time when the first holding means is in the working condition, has a control section which makes a drawing out speed at the end of drawing out quicker than that at the beginning of drawing out of the needle thread and makes the first holding means supply with a gradual increase an electric current (I1) below the minute electric current according to a drawing out speed.
