The bed has a frame and bed surface that is adjustable in the height by a mechanics (3). The mechanics and the frame are displaced in a region outside the periphery of the bed surface. An adjustment drive (4) is displaced in the region outside the periphery of the bed surface. The mechanics include lifting spindles (31) and spindle nuts (32), where the spindle nuts stay in connection with connections of the bed surface.
