A proportional solenoid (5) comprises an electromagnetic coil (9), a fixed yoke (10) provided unmovably in the electromagnetic coil (9) and having a protrusion (13) formed on the periphery of the end face, and a movable yoke (20) arranged in the electromagnetic coil (9) while inserting the its end into the protrusion (13) of the fixed yoke (10) and movable relatively to the fixed yoke (10). The position of the movable yoke (20) can be adjusted by controlling a current applied to the electromagnetic coil (9). A protrusion (21) protruding toward the fixed yoke (10) side is formed on the periphery of the fixed yoke (10) side surface of the movable yoke (20). The inner surface (21b) of the protrusion (21) is tapered such that it is located on the farther outside as it approaches the fixed yoke (10) side.
