PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a warm-up control device, and a warm-up control method, capable of efficiently providing a larger load than in conventional devices so as to complete warm-up operation of an engine in a shorter period. SOLUTION: This warm-up control device is provided with an intake control valve 26 provided on an intake passage 20 between an intake valve 17 and a throttle valve 24 to open/close in accordance with opening/closing timing of the intake valve 17, an actuator 25 to open/close the intake control valve 26, an unwarmed state determining means 42 if the engine 10 is in an unwarmed state or not, and a control device 27 to control actuation of the actuator 25 in such a way that the intake control valve 26 opens in a terminal period of a valve opening period of the intake valve 17, and closes almost simultaneously with or earlier than closing of the intake valve 17 in a case where the unwarmed state determination means 42 determines that the engine 10 is in the unwarmed state.
