An arrangement and method of allotting pattern units of an overall coding pattern in an information management system, are based on selectively setting a state indicator for each pattern unit to indicate one of a plurality of states. The flow of data in said system may be controlled based on the state indicator. The data may be originally recorded by an electronic pen from a coded product which is provided at least part of a pattern unit. The product may be generated on demand by requesting an allotment of one or more pattern units.
