Fluid pressure at an outlet 5, of a stepped cylindrical chamber 2, is maintained at a substantially constant predetermined proportion of the pressure at an inlet 4 thereto. Fluid from the inlet 4 passes, via port 10 in constant communication therewith, to a fluid bore 7 of a piston 6 containing a spring-loaded plunger 8 whereby, upon an increase of inlet pressure, the piston 6 and plunger 8 are forced apart to open ports 12 whereby leakage to an outlet 3, via longitudinal grooves 13 and a circumferential groove 14, is decreased until the inlet pressure acting upon piston 6 within bore 7 is balanced by the lower pressure acting, via grooves 13, at outlet 5 over a larger area of the piston 6; the ratio of outlet to inlet pressures being determined by the relative cross-sectional areas of the piston 6 and plunger 8. A screw 11 restricts angular movement of the piston 6.</p> |
