The present invention relates to an ice maker (30 fig 3) having a fan assembly (60 fig 4), and a method of control. The ice maker has a fan assembly for supplying cold air to an ice-making tray, and in which an ice-making operation, an ice-releasing operation, a water-supplying operation and an operation for detecting a full level state of ice are controlled. The fan assembly has a fan unit 80 which is operated during the ice-making operation, and stopped before the ice-releasing operation is performed, and operated again after checking the full level state of ice, ice release and water supply conditions. In one aspect, the operation of the ice maker is automatically controlled, and in a further aspect the control monitors the ice-making operation and stops the fan if the ice-making operation is complete. The fan is mounted to a housing 62 which has first and second housing portions 62 a and 62 b. The first and second housing portions 62 a and 62 b are provided with coupling portions 63 and 63' at positions corresponding to each other so that the housing portions can be provisionally assembled. The interiors of the first and second housing 62 a and 62 b are partitioned by partition plates 64 to define a cold air flow passage (64 f fig 4), and a discharge duct 66 is formed integrally to communicate with the cold air flow passage.
