[Also in Division C3] An oily composition, for impregnating paper or other fibrous materials to form electrical insulating materials, comprises a mineral oil and a petroleum resin obtained by polymerizing steam cracked petroleum distillates, fractions of such distillates, or mixtures of olefins and diolefins with a Friedel-Crafts catalyst. Polyolefins, e.g. polybutene, are preferably added. Petrolatum, paraffins, microcrystalline waxes, antioxidants, e.g. bis-phenols and phenolic amines, and metal deactivators may also be added. The oil base may be naphthenic, semi-paraffinic or paraffin oil. |
