A monofilament obtained from a vinylidene fluoride resin by melt spinning and stretching is subjected to a high-temperature relaxation treatment in which the monofilament is heat-treated in an oil bath heated at 140-175°C for a period as extremely short as 0.05 to 0.5 seconds. Thus, a vinylidene fluoride resin monofilament is produced which is made of a vinylidene fluoride resin having an inherent viscosity of 1.40 dl/g or higher and which has a knot tenacity of 600 MPa or higher. It further has such excellent resistance to twisting that the twisting index of the monofilament, which is measured after 1-minute application of a tensile load about 50% of the maximum tensile load (JIS K 7113), release from the load, and subsequent 3-hour standing, is 0.9 or higher. |
