Resistance welding of two metal components with different melting points, notably for the fabrication of electrical contacts with copper or copper alloy and aluminium or aluminium alloy components

The resistance welding of metal components (1, 2) with different melting points consists of: placing the components in contact between two electrodes (3) connected to an electric current source (7); locally inserting a filler material (6) between the components; and applying an electric current (I) and a compression force (FP) across the electrodes. The metal components are of copper or copper alloy and aluminium or aluminium alloy, respectively. The filler material is a metal or metal alloy with a melting point greater than those of the metal components. An independent claim is also included for an electrical contact for an electrical apparatus and incorporating one part of aluminium and a second part of copper.
