PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collision alarming method capable of generating a reliable alarm signal for a driver if a residual interval to a preceding vehicle cannot be maintained after the applicable cruise control braking is completed, or after the braking by the driver in an automobile having the interval sensor. SOLUTION: An automobile has a measurement means to detect at least an interval to a preceding vehicle. In order to maintain the residual interval to the preceding vehicle, the vehicular deceleration which must be generated by the automobile after the elapse of the driver reaction time is constantly calculated. If the calculated deceleration is above the present deceleration which can be realized by an applicable cruise control system, a system limit alarm to request an adequate and forcible braking to the driver is given. If the calculated deceleration is above the assumed vehicular deceleration which can be generated by the driver braking, a collision alarm signal is given irrespective of the applicable cruise control system.
