<p>The present invention is directed to methods for identifying a specific class of inhibitors of HIV reverse transcriptase that act differently from known reverse transcriptase inhibitors. In particular, the invention is based on identifying inhibitors which have higher inhibitory activity in presence of a nucleoside triphosphate or pyrophosphate .</p>
