The sports shoe has a flexible upper (22) surrounded in parts by a reinforcement (5) connected to the sole (3). The upper is formed by a padded foam plastics inner shoe (6) and a covering (8) of a skin-compatible material. The reinforcement is formed by a mesh holding structure (12) for the inner shoe and from flexible but strong strips (13) of plastics or textile which bear against the outer sections of the inner shoe. The mesh holding structure can be adjusted where required by a lace system (14) and a soft over sock (16) surrounds the mesh structure and seals and protects the inside of the shoe from the outside surrounding factors. When walking the inner shoe is held with restricted relative movement opposite the upper support face (214) on the sole and opposite the strips.
