<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure diagnostic device capable of eliminating capacitive waste as a storing part of failure information while suitably attaining both the improvement of reliability for storing the failure information and the reduction of a processing load required to write the failure information by positively utilizing different characteristics between a backup memory and a nonvolatile memory, and a failure diagnostic method. <P>SOLUTION: An electronic controller 100 is provided with the backup memory 114a for storing a storage content on the basis of power supply from onboard battery and the nonvolatile memory 103 for storing the storage content without receiving the power supply. Here, the electronic controller 100 classifies the failure information showing failure states of an onboard device into first failure information to be updated two times or more within one cycle of a driving cycle and second failure information to be updated only one time during one cycle of the driving cycle and differently writes the first and second failure information in the backup memory 114a and the nonvolatile memory 103 on the basis of the classification. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
