<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera capable of displaying a new message on the occasion of updating a program. <P>SOLUTION: The camera is equipped with a memory 10_52 for storing character data for message display, a liquid crystal monitor 10_34 for displaying a message, and a CPU 10_47 which acquires message-displaying image data representing a new message for displaying from a recording medium 10_54.
