PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus and a motor controlling method, which prevent noise, vibration, step-out produced when an stepping motor is driven by switching between drive processes of the stepping motor in the optimal switching timing specific to the motor. SOLUTION: Noise conditions, vibration conditions and the like of a stepping motor having a plurality of phases (for example, three-phase) that drives drive system equipment are measured, and a drive process of the stepping motor is switched, for example, to 1- and 2-phase excitation processes in a low speed rotation range, or 2-phase excitation process in a high speed rotation range, with a switching timing detected according to the measured values. Thereby, a drive process can be switched to the optimal timing specific to the motor according to the conditions of a motor used for an information processing apparatus.
