PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat lamp capable of improving resistance to pressure without arranging a spacer member in a discharge space between a front flat plate and a back flat plate constituting the flat lamp and allowing a light emitting surface to uniformly shine. SOLUTION: This flat lamp comprises: a discharge vessel S having the front flat plate 1 made of glass for emitting light, and the back flat plate 3 disposed oppositely to the front flat plate 1 and formed of a dielectric material; one-side electrodes 4 formed on the outside surface of the front flat plate 1; and the other-side electrode 5 formed on the outside surface of the back flat plate 3. The flat lamp is characterized by that, when it is assumed that the pressure of a filler gas enclosed in the discharge vessel S is P (Pa) on the basis of room temperature of 20°C, and the separation distance between the front flat plate 1 and the back flat plate 3 is d (mm), 0.7×10<SP>5</SP><P<1.3×10<SP>5</SP>and 0.1<d<2.0 are satisfied.
