PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for monitoring a battery pack, enabling the battery pack to be kept and used in an optimum state by accurately calculating an actual discharging or charging capacity of a secondary battery which depends on temperature, and reporting it to an external system. SOLUTION: The battery pack monitoring apparatus includes a bare cell adapted to be charged/discharged with a predetermined voltage; sensors for sensing the bare cell charging/discharging voltages, charging/discharging currents, and temperature and converting and for outputting them as predetermined electrical signals; a monitoring control unit for converting the electrical signals from the sensors into digital signals and for processing them in accordance with predetermined control commands; and a storage unit for storing tabulated discharging capacity-time data and for charging capacity-time data as a function of the bare cell temperature, and for outputting this data to the monitoring control unit.
