PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pet excrement-treating material which maintains water resistance and a deodorizing performance at high levels without being disintegrated, even when used for one week or more long period. SOLUTION: This pet excrement-treating material using the crushed product of a raw material originated from a plant as a main constituting base material is characterized in that the third percent of water absorption measured by the following method for measuring the percent of water absorption is larger than the first one; the third percent of water absorption is 3 to 30 mass%; and the specific gravity of the material is 0.8 to 1.2 before the first measurement. (The method for measuring the percent of water absorption) : a dried excrement-treating material is immersed in 25°C water for three seconds, and a mass-increasing rate represented by the following expression is defined to be the percent of water absorption. For the second and more measurements, the excrement-treating material is dried just after each measurement, and the dried material is similarly immersed in 25°C water for three seconds and then subjected to the measurement of the percent of water absorption. The expression: percent of water absorption (%) = [(excrement-treating material mass after the immersion - excrement-treating material mass before the immersion)/(excrement-treating material mass before the immersion)]×100.
