Improvements relating to doors and latches therefor

A hingeable door 1 has a door latch mechanism including a handle 21 pivoted to the door and accessible from its front face, a pivotal latch 11 on the door jamb 13 having a hookshaped end projecting beyond the jamb, a first latch aperture 8 at the rear of the door, a vertically slidable latch bar 6 on the rear face of the door which is in alignment with the jamb when the door is in the closed and latched position, a second latch aperture 7 in the latch bar, normally in alignment with the first latch aperture so that in the latched position of the door the hook-shaped end is retained in the first aperture and projects into the second aperture, the handle having linkage means 22 connected thereto and operatively connected to the latch bar whereby when the door is in latched position and the handle is pivoted, the latch bar is raised and the lower confines of the second latch aperture moves the latch to permit the latch to move out of the first aperture and allow the door to be opened. As shown there are two of said latches 11 each of which has a hooked free end and each being pivotally mounted so that the hooked end projects through an aperture 12 in the jamb and when the door is closed through a said aperture 8 in the door. The handle 21 is U- shaped and both legs project through the door, one forming a pivot pin for the handle and the other passing through an elongated slot. On the inside of the door the linkage means 22 is attached to the handle legs and one end engages the latch bar 6 via rubber buffer 27 and a bracket 28. The latch bar 6 engages the two latches by means of the lower edges of the apertures in the bar, to lift the latches to their door releasing position when the handle is turned. The other end of the means 22 is bent at right angles and projects through an arcuate slot in the door into a U-shaped bracket 19. Both legs of the bracket and the end of the actuating member 22 are provided with apertures through which the hasp of a padlock can be passed to lock the door closed. The handle is arranged to project slightly from the front face of the door to act as a buffer.
