PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article transporting device capable of shortening the time required to make transportation while it can perform a proper transfer. SOLUTION: The transporting device is equipped with a beam sensing means 27 to sense beam 8 and an elevating/sinking amount sensing means 21 to sense the elevating/sinking amount of a transferring device 12, and further with a control means which elevates and sinks the transferring device 12 at the beam sensing speed as a stopping process when objects are unloaded on a beam, executes the stopping process for unloading to control the operation of a driving means 20 for elevation and sinking in order to generate stopping at the proper transfer height for unloading on the basis of the sensing information of the beam sensing means 27, and storing in a memory means the elevating/sinking amount from the stop preparation height sensed by the amount sensing means 21 to the proper transfer height for unloading, and which performs stopping process when the object is to be scooped from the beam 8, wherein it executes the stopping process for scooping to control the operation of the driving means 20 in order to elevate and sink the transferring device 12 at a higher speed than the beam sensing speed for an elevating/sinking amount stored in the memory means on the basis of the sensing information of the amount sensing means 21.
