To keep a heat exchanger free of ice or thaw it, in an air conditioning system, a heater (7) is fitted in the outer air flow (AU) of the heating circuit (2). The heater is switched to a thawing circuit (5) which delivers a refrigerant medium into the heat exchanger (6) which evaporates and condenses in the heater. The thawing circuit is opened and closed by a valve (8), and the medium flows into the heat exchanger by gravity.
