<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a layered retardation plate that can secure a relatively wide viewing angle range and can be relatively easily manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: The layered retardation plate has layers of a polymer film having oriented chain polymers showing birefringence and an optical anisotropic layer; wherein the polymer has a structure expressed by general formula (I) as a repeating unit (A), and the optical anisotropic layer satisfies the relation of nx<SP>1</SP>≈ny<SP>1</SP><nz<SP>1</SP>, with nx<SP>1</SP>representing the refractive index in the slow phase axis direction within the plane, ny<SP>1</SP>representing the refractive index in the direction perpendicular to the slow phase axis in the plane, and nz<SP>1</SP>representing the refractive index in the thickness direction. In general formula (I), R<SP>3</SP>represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; each of R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>8</SP>independently represents a hydrogen atom, alkyl group, alkoxy group, thioalkoxy group, halogen atom, nitro group, amino group, hydroxyl group or thiol group, however, both of R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>8</SP>are not hydrogen atoms at a time; and each of R<SP>5</SP>to R<SP>7</SP>independently represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
