PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake air amount control device for an internal combustion engine improving vehicle acceleration performance, in an internal combustion engine for a vehicle mounting an automatic transmission thereon changing changing patterns. SOLUTION: The intake air amount control device is mounted on a vehicle having the automatic transmission 30 for switching the changing pattern between a sport mode in favor of the vehicular acceleration performance and a normal mode in favor of fuel economy. The intake amount control device controls an intake air amount, by cooperation of a lift amount changing mechanism 25 for changing a lift amount integration value of an intake valve 11 and a throttle valve 23 disposed to an intake passage 22. When the changing pattern of the automatic transmission 30 is set to be the sports mode, the intake air amount control device performs a lift amount change control so that a maximum lift amount and a working angle of the intake valve 11 are constantly larger than that of a case where the automatic transmission is set to be the normal mode.
