PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control temperature of an optical disk device. SOLUTION: Application installed in a host computer reads out setting temperature Ts1 (S1) and transmits a temperature check command to a CPU (22). The CPU (22) measures the temperature from a thermistor (41) (D1) and transmits it to the host computer (D2). The host computer compares the measured temperature with the setting temperature (S3) and discriminates it (S4); when the detected temperature is higher than the setting temperature (Yes: in S4), it is discriminated whether the optical disk device is being cooled (S5); and when the device is not being cooled (No: in S5), a message whether cooling is performed is displayed in a monitor (S6). When cooling is performed (S8), the CPU (22) stops supply of a power source for a servo/EnDec (21) and a motor driver IC (31). COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
