PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pinball game machine capable of preventing the lowering of a player's interest by shortening a time when symbols are not variably displayed. SOLUTION: This pinball game machine stores the number of detected game balls which are shot in a game area of the pinball game machine, entered a start winning hole of the game area and detected, as the number of effective balls till a set number, and even if the number of game balls more than the set number enter the start winning hole, symbol variation and the determination of win/failure of the game are made invalid. This game machine determines whether the number of detected game balls, which are entered in the start winning hole of the game area but made invalid, is larger or smaller relative to the preset criterion, when it is smaller, selects such a variable time of the symbols as elongating the average variable time of the symbols than a case of being larger, however, when it is larger, selects such a variable time of the symbols as elongating the average variable time of the symbols than the case of being smaller.
