A liquid crystal display includes: (a) a plurality of liquid crystal capacitors disposed on a structure, thereby forming a display region that is transmissible to optical energy; (b) integrated circuitry disposed on the structure for modulating the capacitors responsive to an input control signal; (c) at least one photosensor disposed on the structure adjacent to the display region, for converting the optical energy into electrical energy; and (d) a receiver disposed on the structure for receiving electromagnetic radiation and for generating the input control signal responsive to the received electromagnetic radiation.
