In an imaging device, by extracting image characteristic point position information by a characteristic point extraction unit (34) and a characteristic point position calculation unit (35), a focus area formed by an image signal imaged by an imaging element (14) and divided by an image division unit (15) is made to follow motion of an object. Furthermore, for the characteristic point position information, a lower area portion of the temporal vibration frequency is extracted by a low pass filter (36), and a display position of the focus area selection unit (37) is calculated and displayed on a display unit (17), thereby preventing giving an unpleasant feeling by fluctuation of the motion of the object in the focus area display on the display unit (17).
