<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical limiter amplifier restrained in pattern effect while being simplified by, for example, eliminating an optical circulator. <P>SOLUTION: The optical limiter amplifier comprises a low saturation semiconductor optical amplifier 113; an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 101 for demultiplexing a light signal 100 (wavelength λ1); an inverted signal generator 111 into which the light signal 100 is input to generate a light signal of wavelength λ2 inverted in a logical code with respect to the light signal; an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 106 for guiding the demultiplexed one light signal (λ1) and inputting the same into one end of a low saturation semiconductor optical amplifier 113, guiding the demultiplexed other light signal (λ1) and inputting the same into one end of the inverted sinal generator 111, and guiding a light signal (λ2) inverted in a logical code generated from the inverted signal generator 111 and inputting the same into one end of the low saturation semiconductor optical amplifier 113; and a wavelength filter 114 connected to the other end of the low saturation semiconductor light amplifier 113 for interrupting the light signal (λ2).
