PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal detection device capable of adjusting the condition setting of metal detection to a suitable conditions, with respect to the effect and changes in the external electromagnetic noise. SOLUTION: A signal generating section 21 and magnetic field generating section 22 have a function of diffusing an excitation signal in a predetermined diffusion condition. A magnetic field detecting section 23 and signal processing section 24 have a function of generating a detection signal by reversely diffusing a signal, corresponding to the fluctuations of the alternating magnetic field resulting from passage of a work piece W according to the predetermined diffusion condition. The metal detection device comprises a diffusion condition selecting section 35 for selecting any one of the diffusion condition of a plurality of kinds of diffusion conditions and setting a predetermined diffusion condition, and a transmission control section 32 for changing the predetermined diffusion condition, according to the selection result of the diffusion condition selecting section 35.
